You’ve missed out a lot if you’ve never owned a Himalayan salt lamp!
It’s like having an open window anywhere you choose to put it!
What is a Salt Lamp?
Himalayan salt lamps are solid blocks of ancient crystal salts.
They have a beautiful pinkish orange color due to their high minerals content.
These lamps are hollow in the middle and a light bulb is placed there to generate both light and heat.
How do salt lamps work?
Water vapor circulating the air of any room usually carries harmful substances like dust, pollen, smoke particles, and even bacteria!
Salt is hygroscopic, so it attracts water molecules from the surrounding air.
Hence, Himalayan salt lamps are able to attract so much of air’s water vapor along with the pollutants attached to it. These then, remain attached to to the salt lamp so that you don’t breathe them!
The heat from the lamp dries the water vapor allowing the salty block to continue its hygroscopic effect.
This heat also re-releases water vapor back into the air but without the pollutants!
Hence, you’ll have a continuous loop of fresh air, like a window open in a mountain area.
Why are salt lamps so important?
The numerous benefits of salt lamps are summarized in the figure below:
Salt lamps are available in most antique shops and online on several websites, like amazon.com for example.
How many will you get? 😉
