As discussed previously, your endocrine glands are in close association with your Chakras. Your Throat Chakra in specific is connected to your THYROID gland in terms of location and function.
Hence, this post is dedicated to help you learn more about this gland so that you can feed your body, mind, and soul.
Thyroid: Location & Function
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the base of your neck. It produces specific hormones that control your metabolism (total chemical reactions that occur inside your body to sustain life) and its related-operation, such as: breathing, heart rate, body weight, muscle strength, body temperature…
The thyroid lies on either side of your windpipe by its left and right lobes that are connected by the isthmus tissue. Yet, some people don’t have an isthmus but have two separate thyroid lobes instead.
How Does the Thyroid Gland Work?
The thyroid gland uses the iodine molecules from the food you eat to synthesize two main hormones:
- Triiodothyronine (T3)
- Thyroxine (T4)
Moreover, the hypothalamus and pituitary (glands found in the brain) communicate with each other and with the thyroid to maintain T3 and T4 in their necessary balance.
Accordingly, the hypothalamus produces the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Releasing Hormone (TRH) that signals the pituitary to adjust the the function of the thyroid gland by regulating its TSH secretion:
- When the blood levels of T3 and T4 levels are low, the pituitary gland releases more TSH, and so the thyroid produces more of its hormones.
- When the blood levels of T3 and T4 levels are high, the pituitary gland releases less TSH, and so the thyroid decreases its production of its hormones.
When the Thyroid Goes Awry
Due to auto-immunity diseases (when your immune system attacks your own body) and faulty diets (little or too much iodine), the thyroid gland can become less active (Hypothyroidism) or over active (Hyperthyroidism). The figure below describes their symptoms:
How to Heal Thyroid?
As you saw earlier, thyroid diseases have massive effects on your body and jeopardize your health, not to mention that they also jeopardize the well-being and synchronicity of your Throat Chakra that is key for your communication skills and honesty.
So, to help you keep your peace in check, find below the best effective habits and food to heal hypo- and hyper-thyroidism, and to keep your thyroid healthy in general.
